A Dreamy White Mountain Proposal

Have you been wanting to propose to your person, but haven’t been able to pinpoint the perfect location or are wondering if you should hire a photographer?

The White Mountains are a dream location for getting engaged, having your engagement photos taken, and also for getting married. Yes, I may be biased because I think we live in the most stunning area of the country…haha but that’s because we do! We are so lucky to have beautiful lakes, tall peaks, and dreamy wildflower fields to work with throughout the year. Although our scenery is ever changing, that only means your photos will always be unique and unlike any other session that has happened there before

How it Started:

Scott planned out his proposal to Emily months in advance! He reached out to me on December 11th with his intention of proposing to his beautiful girl Emily, in February at the place of one of their first dates, The Omni Mount Washington Hotel. Scott was intentional with his questions and thought process, he wanted to ensure that everything was done right and that the whole day was magical for the woman of his dreams. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

We had many different ideas of where the proposal would happen, but on the day of, the weather had other plans for us, so we went on to plan B! This one was on a private veranda that overlooked the presidential mountain range. While I pretended to be a tourist taking photos on the balcony, I was actually preparing for Scott to drop to one knee and for Emily to say yes to forever. Once it happened I came in close and started snapping away!

Tips and Tricks for planning a

memorable proposal:

  • Get the perfect engagement ring for your person!

  • Hire a professional photographer to capture your special moment

  • Communicate with your photographer about location and visions for the proposal

  • Do a walkthrough before the big day

  • Try to remain CALM, you don’t want to give it away haha

The day was overcast and had a little bit of a winter bite from the wind; but, the overcast added a sense of seclusion to our session. We felt like we were the only ones at the hotel, which was wild because it was the Friday of Massachusetts vacation week haha so we most certainly were NOT alone.

Watching two people profess their love, through an engagement is so intimate and special. I can’t express enough how grateful I was to be a part of this day and to share this moment with the two of them.

Once we captured the “YES” moment, I caught a couple more portraits before moving inside and leaving the couple to relish in their newly engaged glow. After about 10 minutes, we went back outside to brave the New Hampshire weather for more stunning images of the couple.

Final thoughts on hiring a photographer to capture your proposal:

  • Trust your photographer, they will coach you through the location, the timing, and give you constant reinforcement that you’re going to rock it!

  • Be yourself, unapologetically.

  • Take time without your photographer! Embrace having a fiance!

  • Talk to your photographer, tell them your love story, explain all of the details and moments that have gotten you to this moment (it helps bring you both back down memory lane and reflect on how far you’ve come).
